Field - Image - Add an Image field (D7)

Rough Draft:

++++++++++++++++

Drupal 7:

Administration >> Structure >> Content types.

Pick a content type that you would like to add an image field to.

For example, on the 'Content types' page, see 'Article' and click 'Manage fields'.

Recently (but I do not know when exactly, but with my new D7.12), Drupal core has begun adding an image field to articles automatically, and if that is the case for your installation in the 'Label' column (in addition to 'Title', 'Tags', and 'Body') you will see 'Image'. If you do, then you already have had the ability to add images if you were to try to create a new Article page; although you would have been limited by default to only one image per page. To be able to add more than one image to a page, on the 'Manage fields' page in the last column 'Operations', click 'Edit' in the image row, and on the next page under the heading 'Image field settings': 'Number of values', set the number to 'unlimited' or whatever you want.

If you do Not have an image field already at the 'Manage fields' page for Article...

At the row 'Add new field', type a name for 'Label' and '_field';
and select for 'Select a field type' choose 'Image';
and click button 'Save'.

Next page: Field settings...
Click button 'Save field settings'.

Next page: Article settings....
If you want to be able to add more than one image to an Article page, then change the setting

Drupal 7 - My Online (Shared Web Host) Initial Installation and Configuration - Step by Step - A to Z

Version: 2012.08.30

Install Core. Manually, or Automatically.

Install the latest version of Drupal 7 (D7) Core; either manually by uploading it to your site through your webhost Control Panel (CPanel), or install D7 Core using thee automated script service available through your webhost's CPanel.

Manually Install Drupal.

  1. Create DataBase (DB).
    Webhost Cpanel: DataBases: MySQL Databases: Create new DB. Use a DB name that specifically identifies it as being used for the site you intend to create.
    Note DB name.
  2. Create DataBase user. Note DB-user name, and DB-user password.
  3. Link DB-user to DB. Give "All" permissions.
  4. Download Drupal 7 Core from...
    http://drupal.org/project/drupal
    The *.tar.gz file is what I always use. Eg. drupal-7.xx.tar.gz
  5. Upload the drupal-7.xx.tar.gz core file using FTP; or via your webhost Control Panel.
    I recommend it at location public_html/drupal-7.xx.tar.gz
  6. Extract via Webhost Control Panel: Files: File manager. Find the file "drupal-7.xx.tar.gz" at "public_html/drupal-7.xx.tar.gz", and high-light it by clicking it once. Near the page-top, click "Extract"; which automatically creates folder public_html/drupal-7.xx
  7. Rename folder drupal-7.xx.tar.gz to whatever you like. I will here-after refer to this folder as directory "d7-root".
  8. Visit your site at... http://your-site-name-sample.com/d7-root

Put all the comments in collapsible fieldsets - http://drupal.org/node/94035

Posted by ufku http://drupal.org/user/9910 on November 14, 2006 at 7:10pm

I think it's only possible with javascript. try adding this code into your theme's page file just before the closing tag

<script type="text/javascript">
if (cTop = document.getElementById("comment")) {
  var cFieldset = document.createElement("FIELDSET");
  var cLegend = document.createElement("LEGEND");
  cFieldset.appendChild(cLegend);
  var cParent = cTop.parentNode;
  var cNext = cTop.nextSibling;
  cFieldset.appendChild(cTop);
  var cCount = 0;
  while (cNext) {
    if (cNext.tagName=="DIV") cCount++;
    cCopy = cNext;
    cNext = cNext.nextSibling;
    cFieldset.appendChild(cCopy);
  }
  cFieldset.className = "collapsible" + ((location.href.indexOf('#comment')==-1) ? " collapsed" : "");
  cLegend.innerHTML = "<?php print t('Comments') ?> ("+cCount+")";
  cParent.appendChild(cFieldset);
  if ("function" != typeof(window.isJsEnabled)) {
    document.write("<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php print $base_path ?>misc/drupal.js"><\/script>");
  }
  if ("function" != typeof(window.collapseAutoAttach)) {
    document.write("<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php print $base_path ?>misc/collapse.js"><\/script>");
  }
}
</script>

collapsible comment http://drupal.org/node/94035#comment-5932680

Let's make the comments collapsible one by one.

First, we need comment.tpl.php file in theme folder. If it doesn't exist, copy from comment module folder or create one.

Example comment.tpl.php:

###

Login, and 'Login to Post comments'.

/?q=user

...

The login block must be set to a region for the theme in use.

...

CSS: display: none; for 'Login to Post comments'.

===

Drupal 7 site » "Appearance" page:
You should see three tabs: "List", "Update", & "Settings".

Click the tab: "Settings".

Under those three tabs, you should additionally see a row of buttons
starting with the button "Global"; and by default,
you will always be taken to the "Global" settings page
when you click the Appearance page's tab: "Settings".

The settings on this "Global" button page will be the settings
that are applied to themes that you enable in the future.

All of these settings on the "Global" button page
are also found on every other enabled theme button's page,
although many themes have additional settings.

You will note that one of the "Toggle Display" check-box choices is
"Main menu".

This referrers strictly and only to the presentation of the "Main menu" links
just under the Header-- links that are displayed side-by-side
in a 'Horizontal list' (I think it is referred to as).

The Block "Main menu" is an entirely different display
of the same set of "Main menu" links,
but in this case the display is one-under-the-other in a 'Vertical list'
generally intended for first or second side-bar use.

Any theme that you have already 'enabled' will be un-affected
by any changes you make to the "Global" settings page.

That means you should not expect, nor will you see,
any visual changes to your site simply by changing the
Appearance» Settings » button "Global" » page settings.

If you do Not want the "Main menu" to display in it's default position
at the page-top under the header side-by-side in a horizontal fashion:

- Go to your enabled theme's settings page via:
Appearance » Settings,
and click the sub-tab for the theme
you wish to modify.

On your specific theme's setting page,
and under the heading "Toggle display":

- De-select the check-box "Main menu".

- Click the page-bottom button "Save configuration"

Instead of using each themes sub-tab button as I just described,
you can also get to each enabled theme's settings page
via the text link "Setting" next to each of the Enabled themes
on the "Appearance" page.

Admin Menu module has the ‘inline context editor’ which is very handy for moving blocks around that have been set by Context.

Admin Menu module let’s you navigate through the menu options somewhat faster than Admin module http://www.drupal.org/project/admin in my experience.

I often will enable one of these for admins and use the toolbar for other logins (like editors, tech writers, etc).

Backup and Migrate

http://drupal.org/project/backup_migrate

The simple way to add a private directory for your files is to create a sub-directory under the public directory on page:

Private file system path:

sites/default/files/private

Cron configure: Default of every 3-hours; ok.

d7-root/admin/config/system/cron

Book (core)

The 'Book' content type comes with core
and by default is a hierarchical structuring of pages (nodes).

the Book module is not 'enabled' by default; and after you enable it,
you will be required to give yourself permission as admin to use it...
admin-menu button 'People' >> Tab:permissions >>
heading: 'Book': enable several for administrator

Any number of separate books can be created.

The parent-child relational structure is limited to 9 levels;
or at least it used to be.

Any number of children can be created and their order will be
alphabetical by default based on the 'Title' you give the page (node).

Reordering of the children's order is done via weighting,
but that system is limited to assigning each page a number
between -15, and 15-- and so is limited to 31 children per parent page,
unless you can get some additional proper ordering from coincidental
alphabetic consistency (if you follow me).

===

I assume the add-on Contributed module Views
would allow you any structure you like,
and I know you can use any 'Content type' with it-- not just books
but I have no experience with Views yet...
though I know Views is a key to be learned.

Panels

http://drupal.org/project/panels

You can do quite a bit of the layout work for your website in the Panels UI.

- http://www.vmdoh.com/blog/12-drupal-7-modules-you-absolutely-must-have

Maybe the most controversial module in the Drupal community because I think the UI turns a lot of people off. I have scaled back on my Panel’s usage on sites in favor of context but I still like using the ‘node template’ panel for rendering the output of a node detail page and also for 1-off layouts like homepage layouts. For these use cases, Panels is very handy. http://www.mediacurrent.com/blog/jays-top-50-drupal-7-modules

Want blog posts to show up at /blog/title-of-post or /blog/yyyy/mm/dd/title? Pathauto uses tokens to allow you to set that option. Every time you create a piece of content, an alias will automatically be created conforming to what you've told Pathauto you want.

For how to use views, see the excellent screencast series over at dev.nodeone.se. For theming a view see http://drupal.org/node/352970 -- it's for views2, and the interface looks different in d7 views 3, but the process is basically the same. You'll probably want to use the style template.

And i never said it was 'easy' -- but it's definitely easier than learning how to code a module ;-)

I just watched the 47-minute introduction for "Developing for Views 3 API" by Frederic Marand at
http://www.archive.org/details/DevelopingForViews3Api
. If you already /get/ Views, then you can skip ahead to 15:45 or so to start seeing some coding stuff. Marand has a thick French accent, but I was able to follow without too much difficulty.

Yes there isn't that much documentation on this - but the best source of documentation is actually in the 'Advanced Help' provided by 'Views' module. Install 'Views' module & 'Advanced Help' module and then you can see the documentation from within your Drupal site.

##

I am still surprised to be still seeing "sidebars.css" following "fresh.css" in the order of the css files called when I look at 'page source'; whereas fresh.css used to be the last css file called before the final one: print.css.

I am curious if this was an error/oversight; or was intended by you for some reason that a newbie like me can not fathom.

Zenophile Module Automates D6 And D7 Zen Sub-Theme Creation.

Zenophile Module Automates D6 And D7 Zen Sub-Theme Creation.

2011.08.12

The Zenophile Module:
"I like it" is an understatement.

I have used the Zenophile Drupal 7 module
and I highly recommend using it
as an easy and automated method
to initially setup your Zen sub-theme.

  • No file nor folder creation, nor copying, nor alteration
    is required by you to initially create your new Zen sub-theme.
  • You can create as many sub-themes as you like.
  • Your will always have the option of displaying your pages
    with either a three, two, or single column layout
    as you build out your site.
  • You can set each of the two-sidebars' widths separately.
  • You can set the relative placement of the sidebars
    so that they are one-on-each-side of the main-column,
    or you can have both sidebars be together
    on either side of the main-column.
  • You can opt to start with a black background using
    the "Midnight" sub-theme option instead
    of the default white background Zen sub-theme.
  • Layout: You can set the layout to Fixed or Liquid.
    • Fixed:
      You can choose a Fixed layout
      and set the pixel width for your site's pages.
    • Liquid:
      Unfortunately (at present - 2011.08.10)
      with the 'liquid' layout you can Not adjust
      the page's minimum width at the time
      of your Zen sub-theme creation.

      However, the minimum width is easily adjusted
      to your desired pixel width by changing
      only a single number in one CSS declaration.

===

The Zenophile module only creates the Zen sub-theme,
and any subsequent changes you would like to make
will require you to modify CSS files.

The "Zen" base-theme must be installed first
(although the Zen base-theme does not have to be "Enabled")
because Zenophile copies from it all of the files and directories
it needs to generate you new theme.

===

Go to this handbook's Zenophile module page
for more details about using this miracle module
to create your new Zen sub-theme.

Theme Zen For Drupal 7 - Zen-7.x-6.x

How to build your own sub-theme (7.x-6.x) drupal.org..

Reference:
How to build your own sub-theme (7.x-5.x) drupal.org
https://drupal.org/node/1549668

Drupal 7 Theme Zen 6.x Midnight (Dark) Sub-Theme.

Drupal 7 Theme Zen 6.x - Responsive layout - Adjusting Content and Sidebar Relative Placements, and Widths; specifically for the 'responsive' layout (as opposed to 'fixed').

Module "Overlay" - One personal preference:

I have the "Core" "Module" "Overlay" unchecked (un-"Enabled") on the Modules page.
(admin/modules)

Why?

I intend to have a dark background theme, but I do not want to have to re-color the overlay pages.

Also, the paths I create/list for specific administration pages will be as short as possible.

Disable "Aggregate...CSS...", and "Aggregate Java...".

(admin/config/development/performance)

Go to page Administration: Configuration: Development: Performance.

At the page bottom, remove the check-marks from both:

  • "Aggregate and compress CSS files"
  • "Aggregate JavaScript files"

..if they are not already un-checked. Those two things were by default un-checked when Drupal was first installed, but they might have been enabled afterwards.

Why?

Then new CSS changes you make will immediately display for you.

Future note: Whenever I am done making theming changes, I do always return to this page to enable both the CSS and JavaScript aggregation choices.

Install theme Zen from "Appearance", or "Modules" page.
  1. Go to either the "Appearance" page, or the "Modules" page.
  2. Near the page top, and on the right,
    click the link "Install new theme" (Appearance page), or "Install new module" (Modules).
  3. .....

https://drupal.org/project/zen
into the 'Install from a URL' box on your page
[d7-root/sites/all/themes/]

These instruction are based on Zen version
7.x-6.x-dev 2013-2013-Aug-31.

http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/zen-7.x-6.x-dev.tar.gz

Create Zen Subtheme

Assuming your site is online at a webhost...

  1. Download the directory "zen" to your desktop.

    (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/zen)

  2. - Copy the directory STARTERKIT.

    (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/zen/STARTERKIT)

    - Paste it one level higher so that a copy of it is then at...

    my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/STARTERKIT

  3. Rename the new STARTERKIT directory.

    The name of your new sub-theme directory must start with a lowercase alphabetic character.

    The directory name can only contain lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores.

    For example, using "my_zen_subtheme" as a new sub-theme name, the new sub-theme directory should be at...

    my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme

  4. Rename "STARTERKIT.info.txt" to "my_zen_subtheme.info".

    (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/STARTERKIT.info.txt)

    In your new sub-theme folder, remove the extension ".txt" from the file "STARTERKIT.info.txt", so that it is...

    STARTERKIT.info

    Rename the "STARTERKIT" part of the "STARTERKIT.info" file name to include the name of your new sub-theme's directory.

    For example, your new *.info file should then be named, and at
    my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/my_zen_subtheme.info

    Note aside: Anytime in the future that you change that *.info file, you can simply just visit your site's Appearance page, and the new changes will take immediate effect.

  5. Edit file "my_zen_subtheme.info" with decent text editor.

    (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/my_zen_subtheme.info)

    Open the file "my_zen_subtheme.info" with a plain-text-editor (one that does not add extra hidden markup), so that you can edit two different lines.

  6. Edit the "name..." line of file "my_zen_subtheme.info".

    Using a plain text editor (one that does not add extra hidden markup), open the "my_zen_subtheme.info" file.

    (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/my_zen_subtheme.info)

    The "name" will be your theme name as you will see it displayed on the Appearance page.

    This new "name" will also be the name of the Tab at the top of the Appearance-Settings page (d7-root/appearance/settings), so keep that in mind, and make the name as short as possible.

    - Change the line...
    name = Zen Sub-theme Starter Kit
    ...to ...
    name = Zen6 Mid Res

    ... or to whatever you like. (Keep it short.)

    The "Mid" = midnight, and the "Res" = responsive.

  7. Edit the "description..." line of file "my_zen_subtheme.info".

    This is the detailed description that will display under your sub-theme's name on the Appearance page.

    Continuing to edit the file "my_zen_subtheme.info", change the line...

    description = Read...(etc, etc, etc.)

    ...to whatever description you like.

    Do not use line-breaks in the "description."

    The code that follows is a sample.

    # Code START (do not include this line).

    Read the <a href="https://drupal.org/node/873778">online docs</a>, or the included README.txt on how to create a theme with Zen. <a href="https://drupal.org/project/zen" target="_blank" title=" This link opens in a new Tab/Window. " >Drupal.org project Zen page.</a>

    # Code END (do not include this line).

  8. Incorporate new CSS files you will create, and use for ALL of your CSS changes.

    At approximately line 54, and below the lines:
    ; Then we add our own stylesheet.
    stylesheets[all][] = css/styles.css

    Add the following four lines of code:

    # Code START (do not include this line).

    ; zzr added:
    stylesheets[all][] = css/zzr/layout-responsive.css
    stylesheets[all][] = css/zzr/midnight-colors.css
    stylesheets[all][] = css/zzr/not-colors.css

    # Code END (do not include this line).

  9. Save file.
  10. Replace "STARTERKIT" in two files.

    Replace ALL occurrences of "STARTERKIT" with the name of your sub-theme.

    It is recommended that you use a text editing application with "search" and "replace all" functionality.

    1. Edit "template.php".

      (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/template.php)

      Insert "my_zen_subtheme", deleting "STARTERKIT".

      (11 occurrences)

      Save file.

    2. Open/edit "theme-settings.php".

      (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/theme-settings.php)

      Insert "my_zen_subtheme", deleting "STARTERKIT".

      (4 occurrences)

      Save.

    Layout Note: Responsive versus Fixed.

    By default, your Zen sub-theme will be using a "Responsive" layout, but you have the option of using a "Fixed" layout.

    To use the "Fixed" layout:

    Open/Edit your "styles.css" file:
    ( sites/all/themes/my_sen_subtheme/css/styles.css )

    Replace the line...
    @import "layout-responsive.css";
    ...with the line...
    @import "layout-fixed.css";

  11. My instructions that follow are based on using the default "Responsive" layout.

    Create three new files in the "css" directory.

    (my-d7-root/sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/css/zzr/)

    layout-responsive.css
    midnight-colors.css
    not-colors.css

    The "layout-responsive.css" file will contain, if needed, new sidebar sizing CSS.

    The "midnight-colors.css" file will contain only color changes from the original Zen 6 white-background to dark-background.

    The "not-colors.css" file will contain all of my personal non-color changes from the original Zen5.

  12. Replace "favicon.ico", "screenshot.png", and "logo.png"

    (My-Favicon, Midnight-screenshot, and Logo-image)

    ... in directory:

    (sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme)

  13. Replace List Bullet Images with Midnight.

    Replace existing bullet images for list items that were designed for white background, with new midnight icons in the "images" directory.

    (sites/all/themes/my_zen_subtheme/images)

    menu-collapsed.png
    menu-expanded.png
